Thermometer vs Thermostat

Have you stopped to reflect on the difference between a thermometer and a thermostat? 

A thermometer reads the temperature in a room. A thermostat regulates the temperature. When we think about crafting culture in our music classrooms, are we “observing” or “regulating and adjusting” the climate in our program? Are we being intentional in establishing the desired “temperature” before the students even enter the room?

Master teachers operate more in a thermostat mode mindset. They are intentional and mindful of what climate they are trying to set. They guide and help regulate the climate as needed.
